Curious as to why an electric utility rate increase may be on the table for 2022?
Show Notes

In today's episode, we discuss the proposed Redding Electric Utility rate increase. On December 7th, the Redding City Council will decide on a proposed 2% Utility rate increase for all customers that, if approved, would go into effect in January 2022 and 2023. These increases, the first proposed since 2015, would meet the needs of new State and Federal energy regulations, growing inflation, and aging infrastructure repair in our community. The reasons and the timing for rate increases can be complicated and cause concern for many families.

Today we talk with Joe Bowers, Financial Manager at REU about this rate increase and find out how much it would affect monthly utility bills for the average Redding family and why a rate increase is being discussed now.

REU will also be hosting a series of public workshops before December 7th to give local residents an opportunity to ask questions, make suggestions and offer feedback on the proposed rate increase.
